Missions letter

Dear Friends and family,
I am writing to share about a very exciting and special opportunity I have to visit Peru this summer.

First I'd like to mention that I greatly enjoy Spanish.  I have been learning it for 4 years now, and really love it.  I believe this love may be a gift from God, and I decided that I wanted to use it for Him - now and when I am old and gray.  Serving as a missionary to the lost, hungry orphans in a Spanish speaking country, an interpreter in a hospital or even simply having a Hispanic neighbor who does not speak English - I've pondered upon some of the possible ways in which I could serve Him.  Right now, I have no idea where God will take me, so I am simply trusting in Him.

I would like to learn as much as I can and I am currently watching lessons online.  It was this desire to learn more that initially prompted the idea of living in a Spanish speaking country for the summer.  My church supports the Stilwell family in Peru where they serve in their church, seminary and camp ministries.  A large group from our church visited their camp 2 years ago, where we helped build up the camp wall, paint and clean.  Because I have already been there, and know the Stilwell family, I knew that I wanted to go back to Peru.  At first, this was only a dream for me, but before I knew it, we were making serious arrangements for me to stay with the Stilwell family.

As the Lord wills for two months this summer and am eagerly looking forward to serving God with the Stilwell's, while learning as much Spanish as I can.  Painting at the church and seminary, work days at the camp, church youth activities, handing out tracts and helping with a youth conference are a few of those serving opportunities.

Of course, as already mentioned, I do want to learn a great deal of Spanish and take it all home with me.  But I am also excited to serve my God, and I pray that He will teach me a bountiful amount of lessons.  I am already learning to trust completely in Him, and that He knows what is best for me.

Please pray that I will be safe while traveling, that I would serve my God to me utmost ability, and that I trust and focus would be completely on Him.  You can also pray that I would pick up as much Spanish as God would allow! God is completely omnipotent and I am learning not to take the power of prayer lightly.  Praying for me and this trip is the best thing you can do for me!

I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
